NOTEGEN.Install, update, and uninstall
Install NoteGen on each platform, update or downgrade safely, and understand which data remains after uninstalling.
Get the current version from the download page. GitHub Releases are a fallback source. Third-party repackaged installers may be modified and should not be trusted with private notes or keys.

On first launch, choose a Markdown workspace and grant file, photo, microphone, or notification access when the relevant feature needs it.
Update
Desktop NoteGen checks for updates, and a new version can also be installed manually. Before updating:
- wait for sync to finish;
- export a local ZIP;
- record the current version and important model or sync settings;
- close NoteGen before running the installer.
Mobile upgrades normally retain application data, but beta builds and system cleanup policies vary. Keep an independent backup of important content.
Downgrade
A newer version may migrate databases or configuration. Installing an older package does not guarantee it can read newer data. If a downgrade is required, back up the current state, install the old version, and preferably restore a ZIP created by that or a compatible release. Do not let old and new versions automatically sync the same remote data at the same time.
Uninstall and erase data
The Markdown workspace is an ordinary folder and is normally not removed by uninstalling the app. Application databases, configuration, caches, and local secrets live in the platform's application-data location, and uninstall behavior varies.
To keep data, export a ZIP and copy the workspace first. To erase everything:
- review the separate Clear data and Clear files scopes under Advanced and Developer Settings;
- revoke Git, S3, WebDAV, image-hosting, model, and MCP tokens;
- remove unwanted remote repositories, objects, or self-hosted account data;
- after uninstalling, inspect the workspace and platform application-data location.
Clearing data is irreversible. Verify the backup first.
